Chapter 156: Close Enough?

“Ow~, shit, arg~…” Michael’s bones and internal organs were all severely damaged, and he had a concussion. Both of his wings were crushed to the point that they weren’t even attached to his body anymore, and if it wasn’t for the fact that he was wearing armor, he certainly would have faced instant death.

However, as long as there wasn’t any powerful piercing or slashing attacks, the transformable equipment would usually be able to withstand a decent amount of force. Magic was dangerous as well, but he did have a bit of resistance.

The Chaotic Nephilim’s HP was down to 121/560, and he was rapidly losing health from internal and external bleeding. At that moment, Elina called out “I-I’m out of mana!” and the Boss was about to grab his crippled body with both of its pincers.

Suddenly, Michael teleported to the other side of the room through ‘Astral-Step,’ and began hurriedly condensing his Chaotic and Light mana together, by manipulating his Arcane aura. It took the monster a few seconds before he realized that the target of his fury had vanished.

With his excessive speed, it required very little time for those humongous scorpion legs to travel three-hundred meters, and reach the immobile Guardian. Yet, at that moment, Talia began singing in a mesmerizing and beautiful voice, though she didn’t actually have any lyrics.

‘Hymn of Aeris’ targeted Michael and boosted his Defense Rating by one-hundred percent. Given that the Boss’ Passive Ability already had a similar effect, those gigantic beige claws were barely able to deal any damage, even as they attempted to tear the demonic angel in half.

With everyone on the team having their mana-regeneration doubled, Elina almost immediately cast ‘Flash-Heal.’ Yet, it wasn’t enough to save the slowly dying Tank… but right when his HP was about to reach zero, he retracted those wings and extra arms.

There was an instant boost of ten-percent, but he didn’t turn off his ‘Darkening.’ Thus, he simply appeared as a demonic man, with horns coming out of his head, a tail, crimson irises, serpentine pupils, and tusk-like fangs.

That golden blood which had been dripping out of every orifice, remained the same, but the new liquid was dark-red. He coughed violently, and then sucked in a breath of stale air, completely containing his Chaotic, Light and Arcane auras together within his body.

At that instant, his injuries began rapidly healing and even his ‘Strength’ had started growing. However, there was also another side-effect, “Hahahahahaha~! Grah~!? Groar~! Yah~! Ragh~! Kukuck~!” Michael had entered a completely enraged and uncontrollable state, where he couldn’t utilize any spells or even speak properly.

His only form of verbal communication was to either laugh, scream, roar, squeal or make strange clicking noises. A message appeared before his eyes: “You have learned Chaotic Empowerment Level 1: The caster compresses their Chaotic and Light aura within their body and enters a berserk state. Strength, Vitality and Endurance are all increased by 10%. Regenerates 1 HP every second, for each point of Aura. Silences the caster and prevents them from communicating properly. Costs 10 mana per second to channel. Must be under the effects of ‘Darkening’ to cast.”

At the same time, both his ‘Immune System Boost,’ ‘Poison Resistance,’ and ‘Superior Regeneration’ Passives had disappeared. They were swiftly replaced with another, much more effective ability: “Chaotic Blood Level 1: Organs, bones, tissues and even entire limbs can be completely restored, through Health Regeneration. Immunity from all diseases, curses, poisons, and toxins below your current level. Increases rage by 10%.” Many of his other abilities had gained quite a bit of proficiency as well.

Suddenly, an Arrow of Wind exploded against the Boss’ left eye, causing the organ to finally burst open and be destroyed. After that, Sarah sliced the other one in half, using both hands on her obsidian wakizashi. Two huge numbers appeared, one after the other: ‘-627,’ ‘1197.’

The monster’s total Health had fallen to 9,982/100,000 and he roared in feigned agony, as a flurry of poisoned, Enchanted Ironwood Arrows had been fired into his left eye-socket. On the other side, the Dark-Goblin had to quickly teleport away, as the acidic juices sprayed from the giant ocular orb.

Michael roared hysterically, slamming his two gauntlet-covered fists down upon the pincers that were attempting to kill him. His attacks dealt both Arcane and physical damage at the same time, and cracked apart the creature’s shell.

After being freed, the demonic Nephilim leaped over to the Arcane Siegeblade that had been lightly stabbed into the monster’s lower abdomen. As it was removed from the shallow wound, he fell down onto the ground and ran underneath the scorpion’s body.

While snarling and squeaking, the crazed Guardian began hacking and slashing randomly at the relatively soft underbelly. With each blow, a massive gash appeared and putrid black goop began raining down around him.

Andrew shrieked as he attempted to escape from the three pronged assault, but suddenly, a tiny blade sliced through one of his hind legs. Then another one was swiftly removed, and at that time, Talia shouted “This is the end, foul beast!” as her three-stage missile, Enchanted Ironwood Arrow, was fired from her Longbow of Wind.

A huge air-pressure explosion erupted from the feathers once, then again after another hundred meters, and finally, just as it was about to touch the monster’s forehead, it burst once more. The piece of reflective brown wood, swiftly disappeared inside of the monster’s skull.

It continued spinning, as it tore apart the colossal frontal lobe, and kept moving until it smashed against that unstable pitch-black mana-core’s protective membrane. At that instant, the Boss’ health reached zero, and its whole head exploded into a cloud of acidic mist.

The remaining legs suddenly contracted and the whole creature had flipped over onto its back, like a dying cockroach. Michael was nearly crushed to death, but he managed to escape from underneath the scorpion in time.

He also stopped utilizing that dubious ‘Chaotic Empowerment’ spell, and immediately complained “Really? ‘This is the end, foul beast!’ That was the best fucking catchphrase you could come up with?! Goddamn it, ugh, now people aren’t going to take us seriously~…”

She retorted “Oh, then perhaps I should have started singing about genitals and fornication? Then they would certainly believe that we were ‘hardcore,’ correct? Hmph, at least we managed to defeat this monstrosity without suffering any casualties…”

“Nyah~, it burns~! Help meow~! I’m melting~?!” After the battle was over, Jasmine fell into a puddle of ‘pretty’ green liquid and almost instantly dissolved, along with all of her clothing and both of her expensive weapons.

Michael yelled “Fucking shit-cunt! Inari, what the hell were you doing?! I told you to watch the dumbass!” However, the target of his anger was sleeping in the corner of the room, next to an unconscious dragoness.

  1. Guess the next one will be a womantaurus – half woman + half taurus^^

    Thanks for your story.

Btw, do you also sing songs like Michael does? Do you practice them under the shower? xD

    • I think I’m pretty good at singing, and playing guitar, and keyboards/piano lol. Before I wrote webnovels, I wrote lots and lots of songs… I’ve written a few since I started writing as well. I just never really did anything with them. I used to record em back when I first started playing guitar(9-6 years ago) but I don’t really have the patience for that anymore lol.

  2. Thanks for the chapters!

It’s just like Jasmine to kill herself after the fact, hah. That was a great boss fight, now time for the loots!

In an earlier chapter, they mentioned this dungeon having three bosses. Two have already been defeated meaning there’s one more, right? If so, the first was a minotaur, second was a scorpion centaur, is the last another half man, half something as well?

Even if they don’t die permanently, she was still holding those two pistols worth 25 gold each…

      • Well, aside from Michael, the rest of them haven’t died that many times… and it isn’t as if death is impossible. Also, as long as… oh wow, I almost gave a huge spoiler rofl… I shouldn’t answer questions so much, it’s hard to remember what’s been posted and what hasn’t… Actually, my memory has been getting kinda bad lately, like worse than usual. Hmm, I should probably sleep more :(.

      • I do remember something being said about dying if you actually want to. I don’t remember the exact wording, but it was pretty early in the series I think.
