A huge black and yellow wasp was zooming through the complex and dark tunnels, occasionally it would crash into a wall and pass straight through. Other times, it would get stopped by the glowing green crystals inside or crash into random ghosts that were loitering around. Of course, normal spirits would be torn to shreds without even slowing the Legendary Entomologist Wraith down slightly!
“Damn it! How much farther must I go to escape this labyrinth?! Get out of the way, you mindless fools!”
Krowly tore apart several random spectral miners. Then he bumped into three small Dwarves…
“Bastard!”
“Who the hell do you think you are?!”
“Kill ‘em!”
Unlike the normal spirits, the three of them were actually Rank 5 Dwarf Miner Phantoms. One of them pulled out a shotgun, the other conjured up a rifle and the only female of the trio pulled out a stick of dynamite in each hand!
“Die! Giant Bug!”
“Go away you disgusting creatures!” Krowly waved his claws rapidly and decapitated the two men, then stung the woman in the gut, causing her to inflate like a balloon before exploding with enough force to shake the whole mine tunnel!
“Damn it! I don’t have time to waste with you dead losers!”
*Buzz~!*
Those wasp wings made a deafening sound as he went straight up a hundred meter shaft, then followed an incline tunnel for a few kilometers. Then passed through the ceiling and crashed into an ore halfway, but wasn’t injured. It only slowed him down a little bit.
“Finally!”
About three hours later, he reached a huge, wide-open cavern with lots of stalactites dangling from the ceiling. Moonlight was pouring down through several openings, none of which was large enough for his giant wasp form. That didn’t matter though, because he could easily pass through the stone!
“Hahaha~! So what if my body died?! I’m still alive! I’ll just make a new body! Or find someone to possess! Doesn’t that mean I’m immortal?!”
He conjured up tens of thousands of tiny living insects. Ants, centipedes, cockroaches, his favorite explosive click beetles, bees, wasps and even millipedes. They formed a short, 140 centimeter tall humanoid with four skinny armored arms, two long reverse-jointed legs, an ant-like head and a somewhat human-like torso that constantly squirmed. A familiar blue suit was formed from some other bugs, including a white undershirt and black tie.
“Why are those old bastards always struggling so hard to stay alive? Dying is so much easier! How is it possible that nobody ever realized this before?!”
Krowly walked along the cave covered in guano with his bare inhuman feet, though the little bugs down there didn’t seem to mind. A few minutes later he reached a small opening and walked outside while clicking his pincers in excitement. Even in the dark, it was possible to see all across the mountains illuminated by moonlight.
“This must be the northern side of the mountain.”
He could see the bright lights of Greenstone City off in the distance. The Old Town was literally a castle, with three levels of walls to separate the different levels of the ancient city that was built upon a small mountain. The real, more modern city was built around that on the more level ground. There were also some farmland, roads and small towns between the northern side of Greenstone Mountain and the central part of Greenstone City.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?” A warm voice came from nearby and startled the Entomologist. He looked over and saw a slender figure sitting on a huge rock near the edge of the cliff.
“I wonder how many times I’ve sat here, watching night by night as the little ants continued to build their colony around my home…”
“Who the hell are you supposed to be?” Krowly watched as the ghostly man turned his head, revealing a handsome young face. His hair was long, straight, black hair was blowing in the wind behind him. His eyes glowed red behind his thin glasses.
“I’m an artist. It’s been so long, I doubt anyone still remembers my name anymore. Even my Legends have likely been erased from history. It’s quite unfortunate really…”
“You’re a Legend too? Hmph, what? A Legendary Painter? Legendary Poet?”
“I was…But once people forget your name, what you’ve done, it’s funny how fast those ‘Legends’ vanish into thin air.” The figure appeared in front of Krowly’s face and smirked, “But they’ll remember. Everyone will remember me now.”
“Get away from me! Crazy Old-Timer!” The carapace-covered hands turned into green praying mantis scythes, which swiftly tore the ghost in front of him to pieces!
“I don’t hate insects. They’re just like the weak Wordless bugs you can find everywhere in this world.” The spectral figure rematerialized on the edge of the cliff again, looking down the mountain and off into the distance.
“But… It doesn’t stop me from swatting a mosquito that has the audacity to bite me.”
“Arrogant Bastard!” A huge swarm of glowing green locusts emerged from Krowly’s back and eventually blotted out the moonlight, “Don’t look down on insects! Even an elephant can be devoured by enough ants!”
“An elephant is just a bigger ant to a dragon.” As the ghost spoke he reached out towards the snowy peak of the mountain behind Krowly’s back.
The ground rumbled and an avalanche formed! But then the ice and snow started changing into long strands of hair that drifted up into the sky! The stone underneath was in the shape of a massive gray-ish brown stone-like camel head, with two huge stag-like antlers, the long and slender snake neck, with huge eagle claws, the serpentine body slithered up out of the mountain as that snow transformed into a long white mane. Two huge glowing green whiskers appeared on the sides of its red nose. The snow also formed a mustache, beard and bushy eyebrows. The underbelly looked like it was made from thousands of gigantic golden clams, made from actual gold. Then those carp scales covering the dragon’s body turned green and glowed brightly in the darkness.
“You’re only a bug! But I am a God!”
“What?! How is this possible?! No!”
The dragon breathed out a massive gout of flames that easily destroyed the entire swarm of spectral locusts! Not only that, but that ghost appeared in front of his body and pressed his ethereal hand against Krowly’s chest very lightly. Then all the bugs that made up his body disappeared instantly.
“Stop! Bastard! Aaaah~!”
“Hmmm, this form isn’t so bad.”
With the conjured insects gone, all that was left was a scared little boy. He only looked like he was eleven or twelve years old at most. With long black hair, brown eyes and a somewhat cute face.
“Get away from me!”
“This is the ‘real’ you. Underneath all those filthy bugs.” The man smirked and narrowed his glowing red eyes, which matched the burning fiery eyes of the dragon behind his back, “Now… I think you’ll be an adequate material. For my greatest… Masterpiece.”
