TCW, V1, Chapter 40: Bodyguard V

When the tall and skinny Plague Doctor stood in front of that familiar shop door, he hesitated for a few minutes. He eventually knocked on the door with his black metal cane a few times. Across the glass, he saw the huge, shirtless, extremely muscular monster of man. He was at least 2 meters tall, had a bunch of terrifying scars all over his pale body, along with some serious rashes, blisters and boils. His balding gray hair was a little messy, with some random tufts sticking straight up. On his bulging hairy left thigh a few centimeters from the edge of his green boxers was a tattoo: ‘Bodyguard V’.

“Klein. What the hell do you want? You here to collect debts now? I said I’ll pay you back next week!”

“Rufus, your step-daughter was worried about you. She asked me to give you a house visit.”

“Bullshit!” Those brown eyes seemed to glow red in the darkness as he looked down at the ‘creepy’ bird mask, “Hah~! So that’s it? What I do with my kid is not of your damn business, Klein!”

“Open the door, Rufus. I need to give you a check-up.”

“Screw off, Asshole!”

In an instant, his entire body was covered by thick silver plate mail armor! A huge claymore appeared in his right hand, while his left arm was covered by a large green kite shield… Then he kicked straight through the glass door and Klein dodged to the left.

“Hey! What the hell’s all that noise?!” One of the neighbors shouted angrily. There were a bunch of dogs barking and howling ever since earlier. Now it was even worse. There were also some guards who came to check out the situation, from a distance of course. Along with some hunters and other members of the ‘militia’.

“Klein, Rufus, stop it! You’re disturbing the peace!” One of the actual village guards on duty rushed over in some simple silver chainmail armor with a green tabard on his chest. He carried a crossbow in both hands and aimed in their general direction from a dozen meters away.

“Bred, you dumbass! Get the hell outta here!” Klein roared, but it came a second too late. The poor bastard was impaled through the chest by a long iron javelin!

“Aaaaaah~!” Myrtle’s mother let out a horrified scream because Bredbeddle’s blood splattered all over her window screen when she looked outside. Then there were a bunch of other screams and shouts as more people saw what was happening.

“Damn it!” Klein wanted to go try to save the unfortunate guard, but was smacked through the air by a huge kite shield when he was distracted. Then he quickly ducked around behind the tree before he could be impaled by the claymore that was chucked over casually. The sword disappeared and a new one materialized in Rufus’ armored hand as he rushed over.

“Hahaha~! Come on, Doc! You wanna be a big, brave White Knight! Come punish me! Hahaha~!”

“Rufus, you’re insane!” Klein rolled across the ground and deflected that powerful claymore with his thick metal cane, sending sparks everywhere.

“Bred was your friend!”

“Friend?! That Wordless piece of shit?! Hahaha~!”

The cane was knocked away and a huge shiny metal boot sent Klein spinning through the air. His bird mask also flew off in the process. He rolled across the concrete and some dirt. An ax landed right next to his face the next moment.

“He’s just gonna die soon anyway! Like everyone else! Hahaha~! I just put him out of his misery!”

*Ting~! Ting-ting-ting~!* A series of arrows and crossbow bolts landed on Rufus’ armor, but they just bounced off after making some noise. However, even though it did zero damage, the attack did manage to piss off the giant Bodyguard.

“Bastard!” Grun was about as tall as Klein, but he also looked really small compared to the monster that rushed over to his side in a few seconds!

The other hunters quickly tried to escape to the sides, but it was useless. In a moment, the top of a kite shield slashed open the back of the gray-haired woman’s neck. A short and stocky man had his bald skull-cap sliced off, while the sword went on to bisect a much taller man straight through his arm, ribs, everything!

Blood and entrails splattered across Grun’s face as he roared and shot an arrow into the left eye socket of that shiny silver helmet!

“Raaah!”

“No~!” Forest shot several arrows with his crossbow from the second-story window of his house, but before any of them could even get close, his uncle’s head was flying up into the air. Grun’s body wasn’t spared either. In a furious rage, Rufus stomped onto the corpse a few times with his metal boots.

“Shit! Go home and hide! Don’t try to fight him!” Klein screamed as he rushed over to the back of the armored lunatic. Then he conjured up a big bed sheet, which stuck to Rufus’ bloody armor pretty easily. He quickly sprayed a bunch of alcohol onto the bed sheet afterwards, while avoiding the crazed swipes and stabs of that claymore. Right when he was about to use a match, the sheet was completely torn to shreds and a stray arrow came from the distance, bouncing off the helmet and hitting Klein in the face!

“Damn it! You morons! Stop shooting! Are you trying to kill me too?!”

Fortunately Klein’s face was pretty thick, or at least durable. At over 5 times the normal human muscle, bone and skin ‘strength’, the broad headed arrow just drew a little blood and couldn’t even ‘stick’ deep enough into his cheek to avoid falling out afterwards. The problem was that it still distracted him enough that he was slapped away by a heavy wooden shield again!

Rufus pulled the arrow out of the slit in his helmet, with a spurt of blood. His other eye glowed bright red behind the shiny silver helmet and he let out another deafening roar. The sword and shield had already dematerialized. Then he ignored Klein and looked up towards the two-story building nearby.

“Forest! You little shit! Your Uncle took my eye, so now I’m gonna take yours!”

A big crossbow appeared in his hands and it only took the giant a moment to arm it. The little boy in the window was still shooting bolts from his own crossbow, but they usually just bounced off the armor or got stuck in the chainmail covering the joints.

“Forest, hide!” A woman in the house pushed the boy away, but a big bolt immediately tore through her left shoulder and into her lung, nailing her arm and chest together!

“Mom~!”

“Shit!” Klein cursed again, but he was a Plague Doctor… Ultimately he was just a Doctor. It’s not that he’s never fought with anyone before. He just never had to deal with a monster on the same level as himself, especially in a ‘combat’ related job.

“Are you happy now?! Hahahaha~! You couldn’t just mind your own damn business! *Cough-cough~!* Hahaha-Urp~! Blegh~!”

Blood and vomit spewed out of the thin vents near his mouth. He struggled to breathe and had to open his helmet to avoid drowning in his own puke. Falling to his knees, Rufus quickly created some tall shields around his body to protect him from the arrows that came from various directions around town. There were also some brave men and women with mining picks that wanted to rush over.

“Stop! Stay away from him, you dumbasses! He has the plague!”
