PS V1, Chapter 24: Lucky Hospital Beds

[Item: Lucky Hospital Beds
Type: Tools
Rarity: Uncommon
Mana Cost: 4
Description: Summons 2 to 4 Lucky Hospital Beds. Aside from being able to adjust to various positions and move around on wheels like any other hospital bed, these beds are special. They have been blessed by a Priestess of Arcana and imbued with magical healing properties. Not only will they allow the user to recover from injuries more quickly, they will also protect them from weak curses and various types of misfortune. The frames are mostly made from metal, while the guard rails are plastic and the removable trays are wooden. Comes with comfortable mattresses, thick blankets, thin sheets and fluffy hypoallergenic pillows. Very small probability of averting disasters.]

The new card that Matt received from the achievement was perfect for solving their current problems. However, even if he decided to shuffle his deck, the chances of that particular card appearing were pretty slim.

“Phew~, I can’t believe some asshole actually pissed in our basement.”

He was the only person left in the house, since he mother went over to the neighbor’s house to spend the night. Matthew wasn’t tired after sleeping for so long the past few days, so he stayed home to try and clean up the mess to a certain extent.

The most crucial problems were obviously the blood stains, urine and other biological waste. A lot of the food in the refrigerator went bad as well. Although he wasn’t much of a fighter, one of his main skills was actually cleaning. His mother would sometimes work as a maid for some of her church friends and when Matt didn’t have a job, he would always help out.

There was a huge difference between cleaning a normal mess and the disaster that was his home. It definitely wasn’t the kind of problem that could be solved in only a single night… At least not if he was working alone.

“Okay, first of all… I’m gonna open my card packs. I would be really pissed if I ended up doing all that work, only to get a magical cleaning Spell right afterwards. At the very least, I might be able to Summon some people to help me out.”

[You could simply hire some humans from within Old Earth Online to clean your house.]

“Ain’t nobody gonna come out here to clean up this shit in the middle of the night. Actually, even if someone wanted the job, they’d have to be pretty damn sketchy. Either way, I’m still opening the card packs first.”

Matt was sitting on the metal chair in his room one moment, but in the next instant, he was in the Private Server. As he looked around, he smiled wryly and complained “This place is so neat and clean. It’s too perfect.”

[I can arrange some garbage and corpses if you would like?]

“Please don’t…” He snickered, “I meant that it just needed some decorations and maybe some scenery. Actually, no, don’t change it. I like it this way.”

[Fate Fortuna designed it to be overly simplistic in order to encourage her successor to go out and play more games. If the Private Server is too comfortable or luxurious, then why would you bother leaving? It is also the main reason why there are so many restrictions on your ability to utilize the Private Server freely.]

When he was about to open one of the packs, Matt stopped and asked “Wait a second. I’m level five now… Does that mean that both packs will be filled with all five-Mana cards?”

[The first that you open will be all 4-Mana cards, the second will be all 5-Mana cards.]

“Oh nice. Thanks.” After a few seconds of hesitation, he started ripping open the plastic of the first pack.

[Item: AP Pistol Rounds
Type: Consumables
Rarity: Trash
Mana Cost: 4
Description: Summons 5 to 15 armor piercing pistol cartridges. Some of the rounds may be defective, while others might have pristine quality. These bullets have a soft shell, with a tungsten or hardened steel penetrator inside. The size and caliber of the cartridges will change depending on the pistols that are in play.]

He immediately saw the first card when he opened the pack and sighed, “Since I already saw it anyway, I might as well just go through and look at them this way.” Matt took off the first card and placed it on the table, already reading the next one.

[Item: Basic Stick Grenades
Type: Consumables
Rarity: Trash
Mana Cost: 4
Description: Summons 2 to 5 Stielhandgranate, also known as stick grenades. These archaic fragmentation grenades are deceptively dangerous, even to the wielders. They bear a striking resemblance to a simple metal mallet, with a wooden handle. Although they are typically thrown, they can also be used as simple mines.]

[Item: Simple Semi-Automatic Pistol
Type: Equipment
Rarity: Trash
Mana Cost: 4
Description: Summons a Simple Semi-Automatic Pistol. This weapon will conform to the dimensions of the intended operator. Thus, the caliber, length of the barrel and other key features will vary greatly. The shape and design of the gun is not fixed, so there will be many variables. The removable magazine will be able to hold 5 to 13 rounds. Ammo is not provided.]

[Item: Hunting Shotgun
Type: Equipment
Rarity: Trash
Mana Cost: 4
Description: Summons a pump-action shotgun meant for hunting or self-defense. This weapon will conform to the dimensions of the intended operator. Thus, the caliber, length of the barrel and other key features will vary greatly. The stock and pump are made from polished wood, while the metal parts are mostly carbon-steel. The internal tubular magazine will be able to hold 3 to 5 rounds. Ammo is not provided.]

[Item: Buckshot Shotgun Shells
Type: Consumables
Rarity: Common
Mana Cost: 4
Description: Summons 10 to 30 Buckshot Shotgun Shells. Some of the rounds may be defective, while others might have pristine quality. These shells have 8 to 12 lead ball bearings inside of them. The size and caliber of the cartridges will change depending on the shotguns that are in play.]

The first five cards made Matt happy, but didn’t seem too absurd. After all, he had already opened a whole pack of Azrael’s Workshop cards before. He also understood the general theme. However, when he saw the sixth card he gasped.

[Creature: Bronze Clockwork Golems
Type: Unit
Rarity: Common
Mana Cost: 4
Description: Summons 2 to 5 mechanical humanoids that one of Azrael’s apprentices created. Their bodies are mostly made from bronze and steel alloys. While they mostly function through gears and hydraulics on the macro-scale, they utilize standard Rapture-232 processing nanites to guide their actions. They follow orders very well, but their AI is lacking when it comes to improvisation.]

[Creature: Mechanical Spiderlings
Type: Critters
Rarity: Common
Mana Cost: 4
Description: Summons 20 to 50 tiny mechanized arachnids that one of Azrael’s apprentices created. Their bodies are mostly made from titanium and steel alloys. While they mostly function through gears and hydraulics on the macro-scale, they utilize standard Rapture-232 processing nanites to guide their actions. They are designed to hunt down and eliminate various pests. Their corpses persist after death.]

The seventh card was also fairly surprising. Yet, the true shock came from the last two. Matthew couldn’t help but ask “What exactly determines the Mana price anyway? Some of these things are just ridiculously amazing, while others are totally mundane or useless.”

[Mana costs are determined by the rarity, utility and various other factors. For example, Michael Cinagra only costs a single Mana, but he has no weapons, armor or even clothing. Thus, it is expected that you would need to play him along with Equipment or Tools in order for him to reach his potential. There are also other cards, such as the Basic Stick Grenades. Although they cost 4 Mana to play, they could potentially be much more dangerous and lethal than Michael Cinagra depending on the circumstances. Of course, there is also the aspect of genre. The Ethereal Phallus is a Spirit, which is a magical creature that would be greatly weakened in a game like Old Earth Online. In Chaotica’s Coliseum, it would actually be quite useful, especially in the arenas of Lust.]

“Yeah, I get that but… Seriously, how the fuck… I mean, how does a handful of bullets even fit on the same scale as this shit?”

[Structure: Azrael’s Silver Keep
Type: Fortification
Rarity: Rare
Mana Cost: 4
Description: Summons a 30 meter tall stone keep, which happens to be painted silver. This was the original and most basic design for the Silver Keep, Azrael King’s Divine Workshop. Although it is simply a four-story stone tower, it is incredibly wide and able to house many people. It can provide defense against archaic siege weapons and tactics, though it is ultimately susceptible to explosives or magical attacks. It can be played in conjunction with various Spells, Items and Creatures in order to maximize efficiency.]

[Structure: Azrael-Tech Street Racing Bike
Type: Vehicle
Rarity: Rare
Mana Cost: 4
Description: Summons a lightweight and high-performance motorcycle meant for driving on paved roads. This vehicle is not designed for off-road use. The basic structure of the bike is sleek and aerodynamic, while the color is black. Depending on the intended rider, its size will be altered, but only to a certain extent. It is meant for human use. The engine requires gasoline to function, so there is no Upkeep cost. Safety Equipment and gasoline are not included.]
