PS V1, Chapter 17: Another Card Pack

[Summoner: Matthew Leblanc
ID Code: Trashmob-707
Rank: Unranked
Level: 3
Experience: 0/10
Mana: 3/3
Cards: 15
Description: A scumbag who treats his Summoned Heroes as disposable pawns.]

“Seriously? I didn’t force Michael or Iris to sacrifice themselves like that! They did it on their own!”

Matthew was back in the Private Server, sitting on his office chair and staring at his updated Summoner Card. The picture on the front had changed to the scene of him being ripped to shreds by the grizzly bear.

[Although you did not force them to sacrifice themselves. You did place them into a position where they had no alternative. Perhaps you should take them somewhere else? If they come to resent you now, then things will prove much more difficult when you become stronger. Although Michael is wanted for murder on your Old Earth Online Server, Iris is not.]

“Yeah but…” Matt grumbled, “If I Summon Iris in the near future, there’s no way that she’ll be able to avoid horrible agonizing pain. I should probably wait until I reach Rank-G, right?”

[That is true. Unless you manage to obtain some new, powerful Spells and Consumables that are capable of healing her wounds.]

“If I had those, then I would use them on myself first. I need to go back home and clean up the house as soon as possible.” He sighed, complaining “No matter what we do or where we go, the world is gonna end soon. Even before that, the whole country’s gonna fall into a civil war. Maybe I should try to get my mom to go on a vacation with me somewhere? Even if she doesn’t wanna move or sell the house, as long as we’re somewhere ‘safe’ when shit hits the fan…”

[Safety is relative. If you manage to reach Rank-G and capture your mother into a card within a month or two, then no matter what happens to the world, she will be fine. Conversely, attempting to flee from danger often results in even more danger arising.]

“You’re probably right. I’ll stop procrastinating now and pick my pack.” Matthew’s cursor kept moving between Azrael’s Workshop and Uriel’s Creations. He murmured “Guns would be really helpful, but so would medicines.”

[Azrael’s Workshop also possesses technology capably of healing wounds. Though their Mana cost will likely be higher than 3.]

“I guess I’ll go with that then.” After making his choice, the pack appeared in his hands. He stared at the pocket watch on the wrapper for a few seconds, then turned it upside down and ripped it open. Placing the nine cards face-down onto the desk, he spread them out in a fan-like formation. Then he picked up the first one on the right.

[Item: Azrael’s Black-Skull Knight Armor
Type: Equipment
Rarity: Epic
Mana Cost: 3
Description: Summons a suit of carbon-steel armor. The helmet is shaped like a human skull, with large fangs. The helmet opens up at the mouth. The pauldrons are shaped like human skulls. There are hundreds of individual plates that make up the torso, arm and leg armor. The boots have rubber soles and insoles, for comfort and stability. All underneath the armor are layers of thick lather and rubber, to provide cushion and comfort. The gauntlets have individual fingers, with protruding knuckles. The size of the armor will change depending on the intended target. It can be excessively difficult to assemble and disassemble, but it can be summoned directly onto the target… However, if they are already wearing clothing or armor, it will forcefully replace them.]

“Oh my God…” Matthew stared at the red card for a moment, then muttered “I can’t believe I actually got an Epic in the third pack.”

[It is rather fortunate. One card in every pack will always be Rare or greater. The rest of the cards have a very low probability of being anything greater than Common.]

On the chestplate of the armor, there was a large golden Ankh symbol… Similar to the ones that were placed on the back of every card. After he stared at it for a few moments, he turned over the next card in line.

[Item: Simple Bolt-Action Rifles
Type: Equipment
Rarity: Uncommon
Mana Cost: 3
Description: Summons 2 to 4 Simple Bolt-Action Rifles. These weapons will conform to the dimensions of their intended operators. Thus, the caliber, length of the barrels and other key features will vary greatly. The stock and much of the exterior is made from polished wood, while the metal parts are mostly carbon-steel. There are front and rear iron-sights. Some rifles will be created with steel bayonets. The internal box magazine will be able to hold 5 rounds. Ammo is not provided.]

“Kinda looks like the guns they used in World War 2? Or maybe that was World War 1? Anyway, although scaling to fit the person’s size sounds great in theory… Won’t that make it really hard to find ammo for the guns?” Matt was only asking rhetorically, but the System answered his questions anyway.

[These rifles are indeed very similar to the bolt-action rifles utilized in the first and second World Wars. It is likely that so long as your intended target is close to the size of the average human, the caliber and cartridge size will fit within what would be available on Old Earth Online. However, Summoned Equipment that requires ammunition is typically meant to be used in conjunction with Summoned Consumables.]

[Spell: Alpha Healing Nanites
Type: Passive
Rarity: Uncommon
Mana Cost: 3
Mana Upkeep per Day: 12
Description: Summons a swarm of nanoscopic robots to heal the Summoner or friendly target. Different types of nanites may cause conflict or neutralize each other. If the target has an extremely powerful immune system or is practicing magical techniques, the Alpha Healing Nanites might not be able to function properly. The target must be Ranked equal or lower than the Summoner. Works well on most non-magical diseases and injuries.]

“Woah~! I didn’t even know that I could get spells from Azrael’s Workshop…” Matthew muttered, then asked “Will it charge me one Mana every two hours or a flat twelve, every day?”

[Spell Cards are not necessarily magical in nature. Even Old Earth History packs will have Spell Cards. The rules of Upkeep are as you have surmised. Mana will be automatically deducted from your Mana Pool periodically. If the Upkeep is 24, then the deduction will be hourly.]

[Item: Simple Rifle Rounds
Type: Consumables
Rarity: Common
Mana Cost: 3
Description: Summons 10 to 30 simple rifle cartridges. Some of the rounds may be defective, while others might have pristine quality. Most of the bullets will have cupronickel jackets, while some will have steel alloyed shells. All of the bullets will have soft lead cores. The size and caliber of the cartridges will change depending on the rifles that are in play.]

[Item: Simple Pistol Rounds
Type: Consumables
Rarity: Common
Mana Cost: 3
Description: Summons 10 to 30 simple pistol cartridges. Some of the rounds may be defective, while others might have pristine quality. Some of the bullets will have cupronickel jackets, while most of them will be solid lead. All of the FMJ bullets will have soft lead cores. The size and caliber of the cartridges will change depending on the pistols that are in play.]

Matthew smirked, “I didn’t expect to get this lucky… Maybe I should keep picking these packs in the future?”

[Keep in mind that when you finish the Tutorial, or Unranked Phase of the Cards of Fate… You will not be able to keep ‘Simple Bolt-Action Rifles’ and ‘Azrael’s Black-Skull Knight Armor’ in the same deck. The most logical practice is to keep decks for specific purposes. For example, many cards that are meaningless in Chaotica’s Coliseum 3, will be very useful in Old Earth Online.]

“Yeah, I figured as much. Don’t worry, I might not be a fighter, but I’m not an idiot.” Even though the other four cards were Trash, Matt was still smiling.

[Item: Simple Pistol Rounds
Type: Consumables
Rarity: Trash
Mana Cost: 3
Description: Summons 5 to 15 simple pistol cartridges. Some of the rounds may be defective, while others might have pristine quality. Some of the bullets will have cupronickel jackets, while most of them will be solid lead. All of the FMJ bullets will have soft lead cores. The size and caliber of the cartridges will change depending on the pistols that are in play.]

    • I mean, there are a few pretty famous guns in my stories lol. At least famous in the sense that certain characters used them at certain points. For example, Levi’s M1 Garand knock-off that Azra made in TDoE lmao.
